Do you remember me mentioning that I was chosen to be a Shaklee 180™ blogger? In case you don't, I'll give you a quick summary. I was chosen along with 89 other women bloggers to try Shaklee's weight loss program for six months. Over 460 women applied for this opportunity, so I couldn't have been more thrilled to have been chosen. As far as I'm concerned, it was meant to be. I've been needing to lose weight, as I've put on forty pounds since my last weight loss. Let me tell you, I've learned my lesson about how easily the weight comes back and what it will take in order for me to lose weight and keep it off for good. I really feel like I'm in a place in my life at this time to do it right.
So I've been consuming Shaklee 180™ Smoothees, Meal Bars, Snack Bars and Energizing Tea for three weeks now, since March 1st, and I've really noticed so many changes - changes in my eating habits, my energy levels, in my weight and in the way my clothes fit. Let's start with me three weeks ago. This is tough and kind of embarrassing, but I'm going to lay it all out with pictures and real numbers.
There I am from every angle. These pictures were taken on the first day of my Shaklee 180™ journey, March 1, 2013. That was three weeks ago. Here are my measurements:
|3/1/13||256 lbs.||14 inches||46 inches||44 inches||53 inches||28 inches|
|3/22/13||247 lbs.||13 inches||44 inches||42 inches||51 inches||27 inches|
In three weeks, I've lost a total of 9 lbs. and 8 inches! Not bad, if I do say so myself. I won't be sharing any "after" pictures until at least two or three months into the program. While the wait is killing me, I'd really like to see a substantial difference in my body shape when I do comparison photos. So, for now, I will wait. But let me fill you in a little bit about the program, how I've been feeling and how it's working for me.
Changing My Eating Habits
The first thing I had to do for the program was to change the way I eat. The program recommends a different number of calories for each person, depending on starting weight. My starting weight was 256, so I was allowed 2100 calories. But, because my weight was so close to the next cutoff of 250 pounds, I decided to go with the 1800 calorie plan. I can choose from a Smoothee or Meal-In-A-Bar for two meals and a sensible dinner. I can also have two snacks per day. I like the Shaklee 180™ Snack Bars; there's peanut butter, chocolate and lemon cranberry. Peanut butter, warmed in the microwave, is my favorite. So, as you can see, I can eat quite a bit on this plan. To keep track of my calories, I use the Shaklee 180™ app. It's really not that hard to enter in each meal, but I have to admit that I'm kind of absent minded about doing it. So I've kind of slacked on the counting calories part after the first week or so. So far, I'm still losing, and I feel like I have a good grasp of what I'm bringing in. Should my weight loss start to slow, I will definitely get back to counting calories. Some of the other bloggers really like it, though. The app also lets you add activities to your day and watch exercise videos. I will tell you more about those after I've had a chance to try them out.
It has been hard adapting to eating healthy and fitting it into my lifestyle. I had a really bad habit of stopping at McDonald's between running errands and dropping Brady off at preschool. Another thing he used to really like was when I'd pick up a Lunchables for us both while I was shopping in the morning, and we'd sit and eat our lunch together in the parking lot before preschool. Yuck. Those things are really gross. My body did not like going cold turkey, and I cheated a number of times in the first week. I'm happy to report that I'm doing much better in that department. I haven't cheated in quite a while, and I don't even find myself craving the sweets very often. That's probably because there's enough sweet options in the Shaklee 180™ diet plan. My favorite shake combination is Unsweeted Vanilla Almond Milk, the chocolate Smoothee mix with almond butter and a healthy version of Nutella that I found in the organic section at the grocery store. It is so good. Plus, there's chocolate peanut butter Meal-in-a-Bar and the snack bars. So I'm good to go when it comes to sweets. My biggest weakness has been cheese, but I even allow myself a small piece every now and then.
I have not done that well in this department. I do Just Dance on the Wii with Brady every couple of days, and I've tried a workout video have, but it nearly killed me. I've only tried that twice. I think I'll have to work up to that one. My favorite exercise is Fit in Six for the Wii. It's a game I received at the Type-A Parent conference a couple years ago from UbiSoft. I like it because it's got tons of options of activities, with easier options for beginners like me. My favorites so far the Latin dance workouts and the easy ab routine. I'm getting there. Baby steps, remember?
This is my favorite part, besides the lost weight and inches, of course. I have a bunch more energy. I've noticed that I haven't felt the need to take a nap every day. Before, I really had to fight not to take a nap while my son was at preschool. Now I don't even really think about it. I do notice that I'm a bit sleepy when we get back around four in the afternoon. So it's become my routine to drink my Shaklee 180™ Pomagranate Energizing Tea. I like it hot, and it really helps. My goal is to add in exercise slowly over time with the hope that I have enough energy to keep up with all three kids for the whole summer. Wish me luck!
I'll be doing a vlog sometime next week, as well as posting regular updates each month. Thank you so much to everyone who's encouraged me thus far. I truly appreciate it! Visit the Shaklee 180™ website or find them on Facebook to learn more.
