Loved it. I finally gave in after making fun of my mom friends for reading the series. Finished all four books in less than a week. Good stories to lose yourself in.

This Thankful Thursday is dedicated to my home.  I must confess I wasn't feeling thankful this morning while reading the blog of a woman who lives in a beautiful, luxurious lakefront house.  Her pictures were enviable.  I live in a three-bedroom mobile home, and currently there isn't even enough room for a crib.  I've realized how ridiculous I was being and decided to change my thinking.

You see, I have always, ALWAYS, wanted to own a home.  The idea of home for me is stability. It's comfort, a safe haven.  I have that.  It's small, but it's new, and it's mine.  My husband always says, "It's not where you live; it's who lives there."  He's so right.

My family lives here.  The ones I love.  This is where I make meals for my loved ones, kiss them goodnight, and where we make our memories.  I love my home.  It's my retreat, my sanctuary.  Even though it's small, even though the land it sits on is not my own.  It's where I'm meant to be right now, and I truly don't think I'd trade it for a fabulous lakefront house.  Not now, anyway.  If that's meant to be in my future, I'll take it.  But right now I'm content.

That's great, Mary. I am trying to be grateful and more thankful every day, too. I find I get so negative sometimes and then have to pull myself out of it and start again! Enjoy your day.

Hi, Lisa! So good to see you. I find that it really does help. I know so many people who have it much worse than I do! Take care.

Excellent post. Right from the heart. It took us a loooong time to be able to afford to buy (course when we did, it was at the height of the real estate boom - 'doh!). We were in a one bedroom apt. with a baby that wouldn't sleep and it was so hard. We didn't have a washer or dryer either. Now we have a house, our OWN bedroom and a washer and dryer. Its not huge (esp. compared to everyone else we know) but its ours and I thank my lucky stars for what I have everyday. Again, thanks for such an honest post.

It's human nature to have fantasies that others are in a much better position than our own selves, that they have better lives, better spouses, less problems, etc.

I read somewhere that the next time you're feeling overwhelmed with these thoughts of being 'less fortunate', ask the first 'normal' person you run into what's the most difficult thing that, at the moment, he or she is going through.

Listen, and then watch your heart expand with compassion, and discover that you are not alone. And then you can be truly grateful to God for your blessings Smiling

Beautiful post, Mary.

TC Mom -Wow, no washer and dryer! With a baby, I've been there. I remember putting my son in the laundry basket because I didn't want him on the dirty floor! That's so awesome that you've got your own house - it's a wonderful feeling, isn't it?

Great advice, Nadia. You're so wise. Thank you so very much.

You know what? I needed a little dose of thankful right now. You have a lovely home that I can tell is filled with happiness and family. No matter where you are, it would be easy to look at what you don't have. But like you, I like to try to appreciate where I am.

Thank you, Myra. Glad to help up your thankful quotient. I do the Thankful Thursday every week as a way of reminding myself of everything I've got. I can tell you're an upbeat person. Have a great weekend.
